Textual analysis(Arctic monkeys - The View from the Afternoon)

For this video i will be looking at technical aspects along with conventions and codes of the genre. This video has very little relation to the narrative the location of the video is a urban area on the edge of a city. the beginning of the video shows the main character pushing a shopping trolley with the drums in followed by a blowing plastic bag, showing that this video will be shot in a urban area this is done through the shot being put in a old t.v style shot. A straight cut is then used to show the block of flats supporting the last shot about the location. When the camera cuts to the drummer it shows him with bandages around his hands which links to a shot later on in the scene where the bandages are covered in blood. He is put in a spot light in this dark grim location, lighting makes the main character stand out through a spot light, this could be done for a number of reasons maybe to to point out that he is the only one with something to be proud of in the location. There is a shot within this video which shows a public warning sign, it is suppose to say "do not through Sharp objects into children's playground" this is a characteristic of a run down council estate, especially when the "not" on the sign is scraped off. This video is made a little more interesting due to the fact that more then one character is present in this video, the use of extras is used to try and tell a story which i am unsure about, it is clearly done to show a time scale but what for i am not sure. I believe it is done in black and white to show that its shot in a grim location because of the set location you would think there was some kind of narrative location link but that is hardly the case. I believe there is no connotation behind this video where as the denotation is clear bit irrelevant to the narrative, the lyrics which i analysed had one or two kinks with the video itself. The audience aimed at is made clear, its aimed at the specific audience for a reason because its the best way of seeling there music, if this was done to aim at all audiences the overall feedback would no be that positive due to peoples differences in music taste. i looked at a number of this artests videos and they all have the same type of video set up, this is where most of the videos have no relation to the lyrics.
